There are 17 national parks situated throughout South Africa. These protected wildlife areas are managed by an umbrella body, the South African National Parks (SANP). The mission of the SANP is to acquire and manage a system of national parks that represent the indigenous wildlife, vegetation, landscapes and significant cultural assets of South Africa for the pride and benefit of the nation.
