Jet lag
Because of the relatively small time change - South Africa is only an hour ahead in the UK summer (see Local time below) - travellers do not suffer from jet lag, despite the considerable distances involved.
Johannesburg
Johannesburg owes its existence to the discovery of gold and among local people it is known as "Egoli" - City of Gold. From the humble beginnings of a dusty mining town, Johannesburg has become a modern city thriving with commercial, financial, industrial and trading opportunities. It is the headquarters of numerous international corporations and government institutions and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and Johannesburg International Airport are situated there. The city is regarded as the gateway to Africa.
